LL COOL J once rapped:
I want a girl with extensions in her hair, bamboo earrings at least two pairs.
On his 90’s summer anthem, “Around the Way Girl.” Giving a name and a profile to the quintessential New York City girl. For the first time, there was a description for the fly girl from your block. The girl that smelled like bubble gum and had that special glow. She was sweet to some and stank to others, outfit was always on point, even when she went downstairs in her pajamas with her hair wrapped in a doobie to the bodega she was still fine.
With this collection, the Peralta Project pays tribute to the Girl from around the way with a fresh and updated look. For the 1st time, the Peralta Project worked with a team of people to execute his vision. The illustrations of the girls where created by Carmen Pizarro an illustrator that resides Uptown and School of Visual Art alumni. The styling and Co-Creative Direction for the shoot, which was a clash of vintage/high end and uptown flava was put together by Kelly B. And the Photography was by long time Peralta Project collaborator, Johnny Utah. The backdrop for the shoot was Peralta's hometown of Washington Heights. The uptown congestion of Dominican culture serves as the perfect atmosphere for telling the story of the ATWG that Peralta grew up seeing and admiring.
